Storeganise has supported Sensorberg for several years through our original Add-on built on their legacy API. Earlier this year, Sensorberg released OCB v2, a new platform with a redesigned API, a more granular access model, and unit-level zone control. We have rebuilt our integration from the ground up to stay fully compatible with their new platform and take advantage of the capabilities it offers. All new Sensorberg installations go directly onto the v2 Add-on, and existing customers on the original version will be migrated with our support.

The gap between billing and access

In most facilities, billing and access live in separate systems. A customer moves out on Tuesday, but their gate code still works until someone remembers to remove it. A tenant goes overdue, but their unit door opens the same as it did last month. That gap between who is paying and who can get in is a security risk, an admin burden, and a source of disputes when things go wrong.

The problem gets worse as facilities scale. More units, more move-ins and move-outs per week, more overdue accounts to chase. Manually updating access for every lifecycle event does not scale, and mistakes are invisible until they cause a problem.

Why digital access is becoming the baseline

Self-storage operators are moving away from physical keys and shared PIN pads toward smartphone-based, keyless access at every entry point. Mobile app gate access has grown 45% over the last three years, and roughly 80% of tenants now expect contactless rentals and 24/7 entry on their own schedule. For operators running unmanned or lightly staffed sites, digital access control is not a nice-to-have. It is the infrastructure that makes the business model work.

Who is Sensorberg

Sensorberg is a Berlin-based company founded in 2013, originally focused on beacon technology before pivoting to IoT-powered access control. Today they specialize in the digitization and automation of building operations across self-storage, coworking, and commercial real estate. Their One Access platform replaces physical keys and padlocks with smartphone-based digital access, covering every entry point from the main gate through elevators to individual storage units. The system supports both online and offline unlocking via Bluetooth and NFC, so access works even when connectivity drops. Sensorberg's hardware and software are already installed across self-storage facilities in Europe, and their Operator Control Board (OCB) gives operators centralized visibility over every door, zone, and tenant in their portfolio.

What the Sensorberg Add-on does

• Automatic access on move-in: When a customer completes a move-in, Storeganise creates their Sensorberg account (or reuses an existing one), assigns them to the correct Permission Set, and generates a PIN. No manual setup in the Sensorberg dashboard.
• Automatic revocation on move-out: When a rental ends, the customer's Permission Set assignment is removed. Customers with multiple active rentals keep access to their other units.
• Overdue lockout and restoration: Marking a rental overdue suspends access across all of the customer's active units at the site. Clearing the overdue status restores access automatically with new permission references.
• Unit-level overlock: Operators can manually restrict access to a single unit door from the Management Portal. For digital units, only that door is locked and the customer keeps access to the facility entrance, floor, and any other units they rent. For analog units with no digital lock, all access is revoked.
• PIN management: Update a customer's PIN from any of their active rentals, and the change syncs to Sensorberg and all other rentals automatically.
• Unit transfer: When a customer moves to a different unit, access to the old unit is revoked and access to the new one is provisioned in a single automated flow.
• CSV migration: Existing occupied rentals can be brought under Add-on management via CSV import and a resync trigger, with no new move-in jobs needed.

For operators

Less time in two systems, fewer access mistakes, and lifecycle events that update access the moment they happen. Overdue accounts lose access automatically. Move-outs revoke access the same day. Overlock lets you restrict one door without locking a customer out of the building. The result is tighter security with less manual work.

For customers

Access works from the moment they move in. No waiting for a code, no visiting an office, no separate app setup. Their PIN carries over if they rent again, and if they rent multiple units, each one is managed independently.

Setting it up

1. Contact support@storeganise.com to have the Add-on installed on your site.
2. Enter your Sensorberg OCB v2 API key and domain URL in the Add-on settings.
3. Set two custom fields on each unit: the Permission Set External ID (for shared access like the entrance, lift, and floor) and the Unit External ID (for the specific unit door).
4. You are live. Move-ins, move-outs, and overdue events will sync automatically from that point.

If you're already using the Sensorberg Add-on

If your facility is currently running the original Sensorberg Add-on, you don't need to do anything right now. All new installations will go directly onto the v2 Add-on going forward, but existing customers will be migrated in coordination with both Storeganise and Sensorberg. We will reach out to arrange the migration when it's time for your site, and the process is designed to avoid any disruption to your customers' access. FAQ

Is this a new integration or an update?

This is a full rebuild in response to Sensorberg's new OCB v2 platform. Sensorberg deprecated their legacy API and released v2 with a redesigned architecture, so we rebuilt the Add-on from the ground up to ensure full compatibility. The result is a more capable integration with unit-level overlock control and a two-field access model that separates facility access from individual unit doors.

Do I need to switch to v2 immediately?

If you're a new customer, you'll be set up on v2 from the start. If you're already using the original Sensorberg Add-on, we'll coordinate your migration with Sensorberg and handle it for you. There's no action needed on your side until we reach out.

What happens if a customer rents multiple units?

Each unit is managed independently. Overlocking one unit restricts only that door. The customer keeps access to shared areas and all other units they rent.

Does it work for facilities with no digital locks on unit doors?

Yes. For analog units (no digital lock), the Add-on uses full Permission Set removal on overlock instead of zone status changes. The customer is locked out of the facility entirely rather than just one door.

Can I migrate existing tenants onto the Add-on?

Yes. Existing occupied rentals can be migrated via a CSV import and resync trigger. The Add-on creates users in Sensorberg if they don't already exist and assigns them to the correct Permission Set. Read the full setup and migration guide.
